1st grade homeschool curriculum review - math, reading, handwriting, language arts and spelling We're wrapping up another homeschool year, and I wanted to share my end of the year review for my 1st grader's individual curriculum. WE’RE QUITTING TEACHING TEXTBOOKS to address an issue that left me speechless! We've been using Teaching Textbooks for a year and a half for my 12 year old. We switched to have another teacher help my daughter understand the math lessons, since when we had used Singapore, she and I were struggling. It seemed to be working great! But then this past semester, I started to have concerns. And those concerns led me down a rabbit trail of "investigation" that I never expected. I started out innocently considering other math curriculums, and then I found out something completely out of left field. What happened???? The Good & The Beautiful vs Christian Light Education | Why We Switched In this video I compare The Good & The Beautiful vs Christian Light Education and explain why we switched homeschool curriculum in our home. I go in depth through both programs, looking at how they teach, how the lessons are structured, and why I ultimately felt Christian Light Education was the better fit for our family. The Good & The Beautiful is known for its beautiful aesthetic design, engaging pages, and simple layout. However, after using it for a while, I personally felt like the teacher guide was lacking depth, and I began noticing gaps in my child’s learning because there wasn’t enough consistent review built into the lessons. Christian Light Education, on the other hand, is much more structured and methodical. The lessons are longer and there is far more opportunity for review and independent practice, which helps reinforce concepts over time and prevents learning gaps. Both curriculums use a spiral approach, but they implement it very differently. In my experience, The Good & The Beautiful can feel overly spiral and somewhat unorganized, while Christian Light Education revisits concepts in a more intentional and structured way.
